Court papers disclosed to us reveal that the widow of the late AIG Joseph Pizarro Christian Charley (popularly known as AIG Chris Charley) has sued the Minister of Health And Sanitation, the Medical Superintendent (Officer In Charge) of 34 Military Hospital, and the Attorney General & Minister Of Justice on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone the High Court of Sierra Leone. The Writ of Summons issued by Marrah and Associates on the 7thday of February 2022 claims against the government for medical negligence which resulted in the death of the late AIG Chris Charley at the 34 Military Hospital. It should be recalled that the widow had notified the government of Sierra Leone through the former Attorney General—Dr. Priscilla Schwartz of her intention to sue the government as far back as November 2020. We are reliably informed that no steps were taken by the government to engage the family of the late AIG in a bid to resolve their complaint.
The Plaintiff, Mrs. Florence Charley, the legally wedded wife of the late AIG Chris Charley claims that lack of proper medical care because of lack of necessary medical equipment/facilities amounted to gross medical negligence which precipitated the demise of the late AIG on the 11th day of June 2020less than 48 hours after he was admitted for treatment at the 34 Military Hospital. Information reaching this medium states that court papers have been served on all the Defendants but no court papers have yet been filed by or on behalf of the government of Sierra Leone. It may be recalled that the late AIG Chris Charley was a senior officer in the Sierra Leone Police who retired at the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
