Sierra Leone Men’s National Team Manager, Babadi Kamara who was part of the delegation that traveled for the draw in Yaounde, Cameroon, has on August 19th, 2021 injected words of possibility into the mind of Sierra Leoneans ahead of the AFCON final in Cameroon. He said the people of Sierra Leone have placed trust and believe in the players.
The Leone Stars manager encouraged fans that the lads are capable of facing any countries in the tournament.
“We are Leone Stars from the country of determining people; We have a President who loves the game and has demonstrated not only by words but also by actions” revealed TM Babadi Kamara
Following the draw that was held in Yaoundé on Tuesday 17 August 2021, Sierra Leone was seeded in Group-E alongside defending champion Algeria, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea.
Twenty-four (24) qualified countries were divided into six (6) groups after two postponement by CAF; the 2021 edition of the competition will finally hold between 9 January to 6 February 2022 in Cameroon.
Sierra Leone is making her third appearance in AFCON since its last participation in 1996 AFCON tournament in South Africa. The opening match with Algeria will be played at Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon.
The opening match of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of nations will put tournament host and five-time Africa Cup of Nations winners Cameroon against Burkina Faso, runners-up of 2013 AFCON at the Olembé Stadiums in Yaounde, Cameroon.
In his addressed before the draw in the Yaounde conference center, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the confederation of Africa football (CAF), emphasised that they need resources to develop Africa football and be competitive. He encouraged private sector to invest in football to boost the economy of Africa.
After a statement by some of Africa’s most celebrated football names like El-hadji Diouf, Rigobert Song, Didier Drogba, Asamoah Gyan, and South Africa international Lucas Redebe.
The Leone Stars team manager Babadi Kamara in the sideline shared with the football stars that football is not about names, but ninety minutes of hard work in the field. He said Sierra Leone will conquer beyond the expectations of their doubted.
The Bo Ranger Executive Chairman who also doubled as the National Team Manager revealed that Leone stars will march to Douala City without fear and complexity.
The draw was witnessed by CONCACAF president and Minister of Sports of Cameroon, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Sierra Leone Football Association President, Thomas Daddy Brima and many more.
Five main cities were selected as hosts of the tournament, namely Douala and its Japoma Stadium, Yaoundé and its Ahmadou Ahidjo and Olembé Stadiums, Bafoussam and its Kouekong Stadium, Garoua and its Roumdjié-Adja Stadium and finally the Limbe-Buea venue which houses the Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
