Freetown, August 13, 2024 — Joseph Selinga, a 29-year-old pupil, was sentenced to six months in prison on Tuesday by Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No.2. Selinga was convicted of larceny, contrary to Section 13 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
The court heard that on July 27, 2024, Selinga unlawfully entered the residence of Mohamed Bangura at Number 2 Ascension Town Road, Freetown. He stole Le 2,000 in cash, three training boots, two pairs of boots, three pairs of slippers, and one PlayStation game, totaling Le 10,800 in value.
Selinga pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to him. Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa, who prosecuted the case, noted that there were no previous criminal records against Selinga.
Defense Counsel H.M. Gevao Esq. argued that Selinga had expressed remorse and was a first-time offender. Gevao requested the court to consider a more lenient sentence, citing that Selinga had not wasted court time.
Magistrate Bangura, after considering the circumstances, sentenced Selinga to six months imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
