The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Honorable Chernor Bah, his Deputy, Honorable Yusuf Keketoma Sandi Esq, accompanied by other staff of the ministry made the first visit since their appointments, to the headquarters of National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NaCCED) in Freetown, today 24th of August 2023.
Upon arrival, the Minister and his Deputy were taken on a familiarization tour of the office by the Chairman of NaCCED, Mr. Kalilu I. Totangi before meeting with and addressing Council staff. Introducing the Minister and his Deputy to NaCCED staff in the Council’s Conference Room, Mr. Totangi said one of the key things he and the Minister had spoken about was how the Ministry and Council could effectively work together to achieve common goals. Accordingly, he disclosed that, “the Minister has informed us that we are going to work together. We also spoke to him about some of the critical challenges we face and he has noted them down and would take them up with the relevant authorities.”
In his address, Mr. Chernor Bah admitted to being a huge fan of NaCCED. This he said was partly because of the outstanding work the Council has done. “That is why we now have a Ministry of Information and Civic Education”, he noted. He went on to say that the institution that was established out of nothing has materialized into a very compelling niche for civic education in Sierra Leone, which now provides a momentum to build on. He maintained that the focus now is to get to a place where it is no longer optional for state institutions to have dealings with the current civic education engagement infrastructure. ”We should have a very clear, legal and broader instrument that deals with all civic matters”. Mr. Bah praised the Council’s fantastic team and encouraged everyone to aspire for excellence in the performance of the various functions.
