In a colorful ceremony held in Constituency 126, Honorable Emmanuel Saidu Conteh over the weekend has launched a project for the construction of multipurpose hall in Congo Town in the Western Area of Freetown. The proposed multipurpose hall which will be name after one Late Rev. H. C Samuel Memorial Hall, who according to Hon. Conteh was a true son and philanthropist of the Congo town community.
The project, according to the Project Officer is worth over one hundred million leones. In her key note address, the Mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC) Yvonne Aki-Sawyer expressed satisfaction for the initiative. She said that the project is in supporting of the Freetown Transformation projects, adding that before the commencement of the project Hon. Emmanuel Saidu Conteh approached her for the launching of the project, stressing that as Mayor she is very much happy to be part of the historic launching.
She concluded by calling on the Congo Town Community to take ownership of the project, adding that they should support and supervise the work, she further said that when the project is completed it will change the face of Congo Town Community. Speaking during the launching ceremony, Hon. Emmanuel Saidu Conteh said that for a very long time the community has been deprived of a multipurpose hall, adding that to hold launching ceremony and other ceremonies in the community was a huge challenge. He disclosed that the project will last for eighteen months. He encouraged all to cooperate and support the project.
“We’re responsible to represent the interest of our people for whom we must adopt strategic approaches and focus on policy direction of good quality service delivery in the public interest, and when the project is completed it will be the pride of Congo Town,” he said. He reminds those that are doing business in the community that they have to honor their Cooperate Social Responsibility, adding by recognizing the Global Service, Salini Construction Company and Raju Electronics among others.
Iman Ali Bangura, a stakeholder in the community said that it is a memorable day for the people of Congo Town, adding that Hon. Emmanuel Saidu Conteh is a kind man and that he has a heart of gold. He added that giving brief history of the Honorable Emmanuel Saidu Conteh by stating that when he was a Councilor he brought many developments in the community. In lieu of that, he said that he is not surprised because Hon. Saidu Conteh is developmentally oriented. He appeals to the Congo Town people to put politics aside in work in the interest of the community.
The youth representative Kalilu Sillah thanked Hon. Saidu Conteh for the kind gesture. Also Councilor Alhassan Kalokoh described Honorable Saidu Conteh as a man with a golden heart and very developmental, who has always working closely with his councilors, adding that they will continue to give him their fullest supports.
