Sierra Leone’s Minister of Youths, Mohamed Oman Bangura, has announced a plethora of new opportunities for the country’s youth population, signaling a shift towards self-reliance initiatives for socio-economic sustainability.
Speaking at a press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Minister Bangura highlighted various avenues for youth empowerment, made possible through financial support from the World Bank and other donors.
Among the initiatives are plans to create 5,000 job opportunities, provide grants for 1,000 youths to engage in governance, and empower 70,000 youths through a comprehensive scheme. Additionally, the National Youth Commission will collaborate with international consultants to train 8,000 youths, while the government has already provided 70 boats and 40 Keke vehicles to support youth livelihoods.
Furthermore, ongoing projects include the establishment of a new youth training center at Mile 31, aimed at training 400 youths in various skills, with a focus on gender inclusivity.
Minister Bangura emphasized that these initiatives aim to reduce youth unemployment and promote self-sufficiency. Interested youths are encouraged to reach out to their District Councils Offices for application forms and further information on available opportunities.
