Over three months now, the people of Upper Orogu Communities have suffered constant power outage and have called on the Minister of Energy and other authorities that are concerned to intervene in solving the problem of electricity supply to their communities.
On behalf of residents of Upper Orogu and Upper Allen Town Communities, the Village Head Woman, Madam Ayodele Dixon has disclosed in an exclusive interview with this medium that as a result of the constant blackout faced by the aforementioned communities; thieves have started ransacking homes at night. She added that, since the transformer was switched off their people are in constant fear of thieves entering their houses. When they contacted the authorities at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) for a solution to their problem, she said that they were informed that their transformer will be replaced in January next year. Madam Dixon who is so passionate about the safety of their people has appealed to the Minister of Energy to intervene and save their communities from the alarming rates of armed robbery at night, adding that, this has led the youths to embark on night tour to protect the various communities. She emphasized that, it has helped greatly in curtailing the rates of robbery in their communities. She estimated that over 10,000 to 15,000 people are affected by the blackout. She highlighted other challenges faced in their communities as poor road network, unavailability of pipe borne water and lack of medical facilities. She further appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone to intervene.
Further investigations by this medium has indicated that; like Orogu communities, the Moeba Community has been without electricity supply for over two months and one resident has intimated that, “We are spending nights on chances and we never know when thieves will break into our premises”.
