Over skirmishes in the previous bye-elections in Koinadugu, Goderich and other places, citizens have urged the National Electoral Commission, NEC to put better plans in place leading to a free, fair and violent free bye-elections.
Investigations conducted by this medium has indicated that citizens across the country want NEC and the security sector to strategize on how to prevent political violence and bullying before, during and after election. They have also called on NEC and other Election Management Bodies to uphold the democratic dispensation of the country and prevent anything that has the tendency to derail good governance and democracy in the country.
Citizens have further described the Koinadugu skirmishes as lack of discipline and poor administrative arrangement to conduct violent free election. To prevent further reoccurrence of violence in bye-election, they have therefore called for the National Electoral Commission and other Election Management Bodies to be proactive in protecting voters from violence, adding that violence in elections have derailed the participation of eligible voters.
