President Bio Reflects on First Term, Outlines Vision for Sierra Leone’s Future

By Kandeh Sesay

Freetown, August 2024 — President Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promises outlined in the People’s Manifesto during his second term in office. Speaking on the anniversary of his first year in the second term, President Bio emphasized that his administration’s initial focus was on addressing the challenges left behind by previous leadership.

“In our first term, we were dedicated to cleaning up the debris of past administrations,” President Bio stated. He expressed confidence that the groundwork laid during this period would pave the way for significant progress in his current term.

President Bio reiterated his goal of transforming Sierra Leone into a middle-income country by 2035. Central to this vision are the “Big 5” game challenges, with a strong focus on initiatives like “Feed Salone” and Human Capital Development. These projects, he said, are critical to bringing about meaningful change and addressing the most urgent needs of the nation.

He further highlighted the medium-term development program as the roadmap to translating the government’s manifesto promises into tangible achievements. According to President Bio, the results of the 2023 elections were a clear endorsement of his administration’s first-term performance, which has earned international recognition for its focus on human development.

Looking ahead, President Bio assured Sierra Leoneans that by 2025, the country would witness unprecedented achievements. “The successes we are set to deliver will be unmatched,” he promised, urging the nation to remain optimistic about the future.
