Sierra Leone’s leading financial institution, the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) today Saturday 14th January, 2023 launched its 50th Anniversary celebration at the Bank’s Headquarter Car Park on George Street in Freetown.
Since it was founded on 15th February 1973 to serve as an engine for economic growth in the country, SLCB has remained true to its vision of being the country’s leading financial services provider delivering value to all stakehold.
Celebrated today as the largest most profitable commercial bank in the country, SLCB boasts of thousands of active customers nationwide with that number increasing as the bank continues to deepen financial inclusion with new grassroots branches, products and services.
Speaking of the 50th anniversary launching, Chairperson Mrs. Olayinka Philips said it was an honour for her to join Sierra Leoneans celebrate the launch, describing the celebration as colourful and impactful. Madam Philips adding that it was a long story worth celebrating.
Mrs. Olayinka Philips catalogued the history of the Bank since its inception to date, saying it was a battle between David and Goliath in reaching to celebrate this huge success today.
She said the Bank therefore enjoys the political will, competence, integrity which won them public confidence, noting that SLCB is unprecedented and has driven beyond unimagination.
In his statement, Managing Director of SLCB Yusufu Abdul Silla highlighted the bank’s successes expressing satisfaction that there has been massive service delivery over the years.
The Bank, he said also doubled staff strength whilst the customer base kept galloping. “These are all your successes,” he said to both staff and customers. He congratulated staff for underpinning the bank’s phenomenal performance, urging them to imbibe the spirit of a lion in order to maintain the leadership of the financial services of the country.
The 50th celebrations will be marked by series of activities including, golf and soccer competitions, raffle draw, Directors’ cocktail, and more products to be launched to celebrate the success story of the bank.
