Sierra Lone Brewery Hands Over 7 Motorbikes to Sorghum Farmers

The Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL) has on Tuesday 8th February 2022, presented nine motorbikes to seven sorghum farmers as soft loan and high performing farmers’ bonuses.
The presentation ceremony took place at the Sierra Leone Brewery Office in Willington, Freetown.
The Managing Director of Sierra Leone Brewery Limited, Laurent Bukasa, said that the sorghum farmers are very key partners towards the provision of sorghum. He went on to say that the sorghum is used to manufacture some of the drinks that the Sierra Leone Brewery Produces. Quite some time now, he said that the relationship between SLBL and Sorghum farmers has been very cordial.
“As a matter of fact the partnership between the two has contributed to job creation, in the form of commercial farming for over 25,000 Sierra Leonean farmers country-wide thereby helping towards poverty reduction,” he disclosed. He said that the standards of living of sorghum farmers have improved considerably. He continued to say that the sorghum market is growing. This he stated that is due to the high consumption of their products. He disclosed that in 2021 the company got 30 percent of the sorghum it’s needed but said their wish as a company is to replace all the malt with sorghum. He maintained that as a company they are with a strong conviction that with such support given to the farmers it will motivate them to invest more in sorghum farming. He further encouraged them to be more committed towards the cultivation of sorghum, adding that the company is very committed in conducting their business and the company is ready to invest more in sorghum farming in the country.
Handing over the motorbikes to the farmers, the Corporate Relations Manager of the Company, Mr. FodayDaboh, expressed appreciation to the sorghum farmers for their commitment in cultivating sorghum in the country. He described the presentation of the motorbikes as a way of expressing their appreciation to them, adding that Sorghum is very important in the production of some of the beverages that the company sold out to customers. He further said that they are very happy with the way and manner in which the farmers have been supporting the company, disclosing how they will do everything humanely possible to ensure that the mutual relationship is improved for the benefit of all.
One of the beneficiaries, FatuSesay who emerged as one of the highest performing farmers, commanded the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited for the tremendous support they have been given to them. She said that the support from the Sierra Leone Brewery has motivated them to engage in the cultivation of sorghum. She assured that they will continue to do more in cultivating more sorghum to farmers.
