Freetown, Sierra Leone – Daniel Alpha, a sixty-six-year-old unemployed man, on Tuesday, 19th November 2024, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 to face charges of Conspiracy to Defraud and Causing Money to Be Paid, contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, between August 2024 and Saturday, 19th October 2024, in Freetown, Western Area, Alpha conspired with other unknown individuals to commit a fraudulent act.
Count two further stated that on the same dates, Alpha caused Francis Aiah Ngandemah to pay the sum of One Hundred and Seventy-Seven Thousand Five Hundred Leones (Le 177,500) to one Ibrahim under false pretenses.
When the charges were read and explained, the accused pleaded not guilty to both counts.
Prosecutor Superintendent of Police 3379 Balley T. sought a short adjournment due to the absence of the witness.
Magistrate Bangura granted bail to the accused in the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Leones (Le 200,000) with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be responsible citizens residing in Freetown with fixed abodes. The bail is to be approved by the court.
The matter was adjourned to 4th December 2024 for further proceedings.
