The Auditor General Report for 2021 has indicated that the Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA) could not account with supportive documents for verification the sum of Le24,050,000 as sitting fees to Board Members that were absent for meetings.
The report indicated that the amount totaling Le 28,125,000 sitting fees to Board Members and records of the Board Meetings were not presented for Audit Inspection and that the evidence justifying the payment totaling Le 28,125,000 as sitting fees to Board Members present and Le 245,050,000 were not provided for Audit Inspection.
The Report cited Section 16 (1) of the Accounting manual of the Authority stipulates that sufficient documentation should be maintained on all fixed assets to determine costs and ensure assets location and condition. The report disclosed that SLRA did not have an Asset Registrar for fiscal year (FY) 2021.
The Audit Department recommended that the Director General should make sure that the Finance Directorate record details including identification codes of all assets owned and controlled by the authority and evidence of action to be submitted to the Auditor General’s Office.
