Sierra Leone faces a delicate balancing act between maintaining peace and fighting the public health disaster that is the Corona virus pandemic. It has been confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department of the Sierra Leone Police in Waterloo in the Western rural district of Sierra Leone have declared a strong supporter of the main opposition All People Congress Party Usif Theo Kamara of MacDonald Street Tombo and some of his party stalwarts wanted for their alleged involvement in a protest that resulted to death of three youths in Tombo.
Usif Theo Kamara and his political party friends were accused of being among the ring leaders in the Tombo protest and riots over the stopping of fishermen from going into the Sea to fish due to Covid 19 restrictions.
This is one of the measures adopted by government to stop the chain of transmission, immediately after the three days lockdown.
Majority of the people in Tombo were protesting over government decision not to allow more than twenty locally made wooden boats to go to the deep sea to fish to get there daily survival .
Head of the Investigation, Sergeant Alimamy Conteh told this press that after the protest the government ordered the police to start a full scale investigation into the riot that resulted to the distruction of some properties and the death of three young people from gun shot and many others injured.
It must be indicated that because Tombo town is the stronghold of the All People Congress Party APC, the Sierra Leone People Party SLPP led government decided to launch a full scale investigation into what happened during the protest that ended up being violent and gruesome.
Police Sergeant Conteh went further to said that the government demanded a full scale investigation, adding that all those found culpable must be brought to book.
He further pointed out that the orders from government prompted the police to start arresting people including Men and women suspected to have played a pivotal role in that crisis incident.
Sergeant Conteh reiterated that, they have decided to issue an arrest warrant for Usif Theo Kamara and his party stalwarts for their alleged role in that demonstration. He intimated that the Criminal Investigations Department has included their names in the list of wanted person’s since she refused to respond to the call of the Police to make statement regarding that issue.
As we go to press, family members in Tombo have expressed serious concerns about Usif Theo Kamara whereabout as some of his family members she’d tears about there Son as they are very much worried about his safety and well-being, as their are lots of political tensions and so many people has lost their lives recent times in places like Lunsar, Makeni and Freetown on this political tensions. Since Usif Theo Kamara fled his home town of Tombo, there is no clue about him uptil now.
