U.S. Homeland Security Investigations Partners with SLP to Enhance Capacity Building
Kingtom Police Barracks, Sierra Leone – April 23, 2025 – A delegation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Regional Headquarters in Dakar, Senegal, met with Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, to discuss a proposed partnership focused on capacity building within the police .
Kenneth Broch Ford, head of the HSI delegation, emphasized that their investigative efforts target organized crime, including drug and human trafficking, money laundering, counterfeit pharmaceuticals, and cybercrime. He expressed a strong willingness to provide training tailored to the needs of the SLP, which would contribute to effective crime prevention and law enforcement in Sierra Leone.
In response, IGP Sellu welcomed the partnership and expressed his enthusiasm for the proposed training initiatives. He acknowledged the existing knowledge gaps within the SLP and the pressing need for capacity building to address evolving criminal activities. “What’s paramount to me is training, because crime is changing its face on a daily basis,” said Sellu, highlighting the importance of equipping personnel with skills relevant to contemporary policing challenges.
During the meeting, he also raised concerns about the increasing prevalence of scams, particularly the QNET Scam, underlining the necessity for specialized training to combat such issues effectively.
IGP Sellu pledged his commitment to strengthening the partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, emphasizing the potential benefits for both the police and the nation as a whole.
