UNIMTECH Engages Lecturers on Project Writing and Supervision

The University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) has over the week concluded a two day training for lecturers and senior management staff of the university on Project Writing and Supervision.

The two days intensive in-house training was held in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the university and the unveiling of the statue of the Propitiator/ Chancellor Mr. Paul Kamara and the Pro Chancellor Dr. Mrs. Abi Paula Kamara.

The ceremony was held at the university’s European Hall and was well attended by lecturers from main campus in Freetown and others from constituent campuses in Bo, Kono, Lunsar and Kambia.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal of the University Prof. Roseline Emeh Uyanga expressed thanks and appreciation to all participants especially those who traveled from the provinces to attend the session first hand.
She noted that the theme of the training which is: Quality Assurance in Research Project Writing and Supervision is timely especially when student are preparing to write their dissertations. She stated that the training will broaden the knowledge of the lecturers in supervising their students and will also give them an advantage to be introduced to new research skills and methods.
Prof. Uyanga explained that experts in the thematic areas will be delivering presentations on, the Obligations and Expectations of Project Supervisors, Project Abstract and Intro, Research Objectives, Research Questions, Hypothesis and Scope, Literature Review, Intro to Theory and Modeling, Data Analysis Method/Technique, Data Validation and Validity, Intro to Data Presentation and Analysis, Quantitative Analysis, Qualitative Analysis, among others.
She added that at the end of the training, lecturers would be given additional assignments to show their level of understanding and how much they have been following the presentations.

She maintained that this is the first time they are holding such a workshop, and it is aimed at improving the quality of research projects that the students and lecturers can write especially good quality publishable articles for local and international journals.

She revealed that the training will be conducted for all final year students to support what they have learnt in their Research Methodology class and this will properly position them to work with their supervisors.

“30 years of existence, from a small institute to a college now a university demonstrates the passion we have for education. We have produced a lot of alumni who are now serving in senior places,” she said,
adding that “what makes us different from others is that, we have a human face, for country and humanity, and we encourage our students to be hardworking and we provide good payment plans for them.”

Prof. Uyanga concluded by noting that the university hosts more than 5000 students on campus and this year they were able to graduate more than 3000 students from 2019 and 2020 academic years.

The ceremony was climaxed with the cutting of cake and popping of champagne.
