Kafu Bullum, Port Loko District, Saturday 02 October 2021 – His Excellency, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has presented cheques through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) ‘disaster relief package’ to victims of a fire outbreak at Rotifunk market.
The Vice President said the fire outbreak affected the families of the Rotifunk Market including their livelihoods; hence, the government has been working tirelessly to garner support for the victims, adding that it is worth noting that this relief package was coming directly from the government through NDMA-the statutory body that deals with all disaster matters in the country.
VP Juldeh noted that the relief response by the NDMA caters for victims of circumstance without prejudice; after a thorough assessment, the NDMA decides who benefits from the package. He said he informed the chief to allocate a piece of land in the market, where the government can construct a wash facility for the market women. He told the gathering: “You should protect the facilities that the government is providing for you”.
Director-General of the National Disaster Management Agency, Rtd. Lt. General (Rtd.) Brima Bureh Sesay said the people should thank the government and the president, as the creation of the Agency was through the wisdom of the president, who deemed it fit to separate the Agency from the Office of National Security, for the efficiency of work in restoring the livelihoods of victims of such circumstances.
The Resident Minister of North-West Region, Haja Isata Abdulai Kamara praised the government and NDMA for the rapid response to cater for the victims, and that they are not left to experience the pain all alone. She said Kafubulum people should be happy because the VP is a ‘son of the soil’.
A beneficiary, AL Hassan Jalloh, thanked the Government and NDMA for the timely support. He admits it is the first they have realized a large scale government intervention in supporting people who have been in distress. He prayed NDMA support to the affected will continue.
