Woman Dragged to Court for Theft

Magistrate Mark Ngegba presiding over the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2, has granted fifty million Leones (Le50,000,000) bail to one Isata Mansaray, aged (21) years old for allegedly stealing the sum of $4000 USD from one Allan Buller Jarrett at Cape Road Aberdeen in Freetown.

Detective Sergeant 9785 Abu Julius Kamara, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Aberdeen Police Division in Freetown, testified in court that he recognized the accused, and also the complainant (Allan Buller Jarrett). He added that on Friday 23rd July 2021, he was on duty when the accused was apprehended and brought to the station in respect of larceny and house breaking.

He further disclosed that the matter was assigned to him for further investigation. On the same date, he said he obtained statement from the complainant and his witnesses. Detective Sergeant Kamara further told the court that together with Detective Sergeant 11894 Smith A. D visited the crime scene at Aberdeen Road. Upon their arrival, he said they discovered that the complainant’s door was damaged. He went on to say that they also discovered that the suitcase containing the money was damaged. He said that the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) took photographs of the scene. Detective Sergeant 9785 Kamara disclosed in court that together with other police officers they conducted search warrant at the premises of the accused person. According to him, nothing of police interest was discovered.

He said that the accused person was charged with the offences of larceny and house breaking contrary to Section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the charged sheet, the accused Isata Mansaray on Friday 23rd July 2021, at Cape Road, Aberdeen, in Freetown entered into the dwelling house of Allan Buller Jarrett and stole $4,500 United States dollars, property which belongs to the complainant.

The Defence Counsel H. Tholley applied for Bail on behalf of the accused person and bail was granted in the sum of fifty million leones bail.

The matter was adjourned to Monday 23rd August, 2021.
